The new musical, Fishing Widows: the Reel Story, is coming to the Franklin Arts Center, 1001 Kingwood, Brainerd, on June 24th and 25th. All performances are at 7:30pm. The production is brought to you by The Crossing Arts Alliance.
Dont miss this delightful musical which celebrates the strength and necessity of women friendships. Decades of a shared fishing opener weekend have forged a powerful sisterhood between Annie, Sarah and Betsy in this new musical comedy. These foxy fishing widows are joined by charming teenaged daughter, Stefanie, and potential daughter-in-law, Quinn, who is trying on her fit in anticipation of an imminent marriage proposal.
Layers of the heart are peeled away as the weekend unfolds, revealing honest truths, and the complexity of their relationships with their men. While the hobby of choice of men differs, the commonality of humor, frustration, and angst is universal. This delightful musical is for all women and for any man who believes the real action is on the water.
The show was written by St. Cloud playwright, Sally Brenden and is being staged by Minneapolis director, Sarah Nargang and choreographed by James Lekatz. A magnificent musical score has been composed by Greg Armstrong and Tom Bard and features a variety of musical styles from classic rock to country - and even a tango and a couple heart-warming ballads.
The show stars professional actresses Laura Busch (a Brainerd local) and Catherine Battocletti, Katherine Tieben, Marley Woods, along with St. Cloud resident, Amy Johnson in the role of Annie.
After the musicals successful run in St. Cloud, The Crossing Arts Alliance is excited to bring it to the lake country. Admission is $20 for advance tickets and $22 at the door.
